According to the National Weather Service, the temperature in Honolulu hit 90 degrees at 11:23 a.m., but the heat index soared to triple digits, reaching the 100-degree mark. (The heat index factors in the air temperature and relative humidity to provide a sense of what it really feels like outdoors.)
It didn’t get much better as the day progressed: By 2:53 p.m. the temperature was 89 degrees while the heat index was still a withering 97 degrees.

As high as 97 degrees. The hot weather should stick around through at least Monday, the NWS said.
The record high temperature in Honolulu for August is 93 degrees, most recently in 1997.
