Prosecutors on Tuesday charged a 35-year-old man suspected of robbing a Kalihi convenience store with an Airsoft replica handgun Sunday.
David Kinikini was charged with one count of first-degree robbery and two counts of first-degree terroristic threatening. His bail was set at $200,000.
Two officers fired one round each, but neither struck Kinikini, who collapsed but was not shot, police said.
Police were responding to multiple calls of a robbery involving a handgun before 8:50 p.m. Sunday at the 7-Eleven at 555 N. King St.
Kinikini had been free on $25,000 bond for multiple counts of first-degree assault on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest and third-degree promotion of a dangerous drug.
Motorcyclist who died in freeway crash ID’d
The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office has identified a 31-year-old Honolulu man who died Sunday after crashing his motorcycle on Moanalua Freeway as Stuart Jaictin.
Police said Jaictin was riding a motorcycle Ewa-bound when he lost control along a curve in the freeway before the Red Hill offramp, veered onto the shoulder lane and struck a guardrail. He was thrown from the motorcycle and died at the scene. He was not wearing a helmet.
Police said speed and alcohol were contributing factors in the crash, which happened at about 1:45 a.m. Jaictin was the father of a 4-year-old girl, according to birth announcements in the Honolulu Star-Advertiser. His family started a gofundme.com page to raise money for his daughter, Aria.
Man, 37, arrested in Kalihi assault case
A 37-year-old man has been charged after he allegedly assaulted a 59-year-old man in Kalihi.
Prosecutors charged Brandon M. Wages on Monday with first-degree assault. His bail was set at $75,000.
At about 10 p.m. Saturday, police said, a suspect later identified as Wages assaulted the victim, causing “substantial bodily injury.”
Police arrested Wages shortly afterward.
