HFD says 4 Kailua fires overnight were intentionally set
Honolulu Fire Department investigators said this afternoon that several overnight Kailua fires were intentionally set.
Firefighters responded to five Kailua fires from 10:51 p.m. Thursday until 2:25 a.m. Friday, HFD officials said. Investigators determined that four of the fires were intentionally set, while the fifth fire remains under investigation.
Residents were inside of four of the homes but escaped without major injuries, officials said.
Honolulu Police Department investigators will pursue the arson cases and HFD officials ask the public to contact the HPD if they have any information about the fires.
The fires included one just before 11:15 p.m. Thursday, when five units with 18 firefighters responded to a Nanialii Street home. When they arrived, firefighters observed flames within a detached garage, according to HFD. Firefighters brought the blaze under control at 11:24 p.m. and extinguished it by 12:20 a.m. today.
A woman who was home at the time escaped before firefighters arrived.

At 11:36 p.m., seven units with 26 firefighters responded to a two-alarm fire at on Wanaao Road. The fire department said a smoke detector alerted five occupants of the fire. Residents pulled a woman through a window before firefighters arrived.
Emergency Medical Services responded and treated one female for smoke inhalation. Firefighters brought the fire under control by 12:29 a.m. and extinguished it shortly before 12:45 a.m.
The American Red Cross were contacted to assist displaced residents.
