Shark sighting prompts closure of Hanalei Bay on Kauai
A sighting of a 6-foot shark “breaching and thrashing near the shoreline” has prompted ocean safety officials to close Hanalei Bay until at least Friday morning, Kauai County officials said.
The breed of the shark is unknown.
“No Swimming” and “Shark Sighted” signs have been posted and people are advised to stay out of the water. Ocean Safety officials instead recommend using Poipu Beach, where the water clarity is better.
