After a robbery Friday by two men armed with machetes, city officials have decided to permanently shut down the Commercial Driver Licensing office in Halawa near Aloha Stadium, it was announced Wednesday.
City spokesman Andrew Perreira said the site is isolated and is hard to secure, so it will be permanently shut down for the safety of employees and customers.
The city Department of Customer Services will integrate the CDL office into the Kapalama Hale driver licensing facility at 925 Dillingham Blvd., where there is extra window capacity, the city said in a news release.
The city says the shift will allow staff to be cross-trained.
The Halawa office had been processing about
10 commercial driver’s licenses a day.
Police have not made any arrests yet in the Friday robbery, Honolulu Police Department spokeswoman Michelle Yu said Wednesday.
The two men entered the CDL office at about 2:30 p.m. at 99-501 Salt Lake Blvd., allegedly threatened staff and customers, stole cash then fled on foot.
