Manoa district pool reopens after getting new roofing
The swimming pool and neighboring gymnasium at Manoa Valley District Park reopened Tuesday following a re-roofing project that began in February.
The pool has reopened for morning lap swims from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. weekdays; afternoon laps and free swim from 2:30 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Thursdays and Fridays; and evening lap swims 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The pool is open 1 to 5 p.m. on weekends, city Department of Parks and Recreation officials said.
City contractors replaced the decades old roof on the hexagon-shaped gym closest to the pool with a single-ply roofing system that will make it more weatherproof at a cost of $1.17 million, officials said. Repairs were also made to the restrooms shared by the gym and pool.
Due to lifeguard availability, the reopening of the Manoa pool resulted in a scaled-back schedule for the McCully District Park pool, city officials said. A full list of swimming pools and phone numbers is available at parks.honolulu.gov.
