Police arrest man in 2 Honolulu bank robbery attempts
Police arrested a 51-year-old man after he allegedly attempted to rob two banks this morning in Honolulu.
Shortly after 9:05 a.m. today, police dispatchers reported an attempted robbery at Bank of Hawaii at 1441 Kapiolani Boulevard near Ala Moana Center.
Dispatchers said he fled on foot toward Keeaumoku Street. An all-points bulletin was immediately issued for the suspect.
At about 9:27 a.m., the same man then struck First Hawaiian Bank’s main branch at 999 Bishop St. in downtown Honolulu, said Sgt. Kim Buffett of CrimeStoppers.
Several police officers responded and arrested the man on suspicion of two counts of second-degree attempted robbery.
A bank representative at First Hawaiian Bank declined to comment.
