Heavy rain accompanied by thunder prompted flash flood warnings Tuesday for Oahu.
Oahu appeared to take the brunt of the rain in the main Hawaiian Islands due to unstable weather conditions in the northeast.
The weather is expected to be better today, but some rain will continue, National Weather Service forecaster Norman Hui said.
“Things should be settling down,” Hui said. “We still have the tradewinds.”
Close to 4 inches of rain fell over three hours in Manoa, according to the weather service’s report at 5:45 p.m.
The downpour created dangerous driving conditions during the afternoon commute on the Windward side of the H-3 freeway and elsewhere, officials said.
Storm warnings were posted in the afternoon for Honolulu, Waimanalo, Haleiwa, Wahiawa, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii Kai, Ahuimanu, Punaluu, Wheeler Field, Waikele, Kalihi and Waiahole.
The most rain in 24 hours fell at a rain gauge in the Moanalua area: 4.58 inches, according to the weather service.
