No. 4 Mililani 49, Castle 0
Trojans junior Dillon Gabriel threw for 222 yards and accounted for three touchdowns in the first half for Mililani (3-0, 3-0 OIA Red), which has yet to give up a point this season.
Junior running back Kilifi Malepeai added three touchdown runs and 82 rushing yards and backup quarterback Cy Kuboyama-Hayashi added a 52-yard touchdown run in the third quarter for the game’s final score.
Mililani, which opened its season with a forfeit win over Kaiser and then blanked Leilehua 47-0, got a goal-line stand late in the first half to preserve the shutout.
Castle’s Chasen Palaylay-Shufford ripped off a 72-yard run inside the Mililani 20, and a face-mask penalty put the ball at the Trojans’ 8-yard line.
The Knights (2-2, 2-1) got inside the 5-yard line, but quarterback Makana Smith was stuffed on fourth down for a loss by Jalen Olomua with five seconds remaining.
Gabriel sat out the entire second half.
Mililani will play on the mainland next Friday against Clayton Valley Charter (Calif.).
“Just more competition,” Gabriel said after the game. “Whenever you face the top boys it’s definitely fun. When you face the top guys, you’re going to see who the best guys on your team is and you get better as well when you face better competition.”
