The Governors’ first trip to Nanakuli in 32 years produced their first win of the season.
Stephen Eter threw three touchdown passes and Farrington’s defense forced five turnovers in an OIA Red victory over the host Golden Hawks on Friday.
The Farrington defense thwarted an early Nanakuli threat with a fumble recovery at the Governors’ 5. Their second takeaway set up the first of two scoring connections from Eter to Reginald Faamatau.
Wendell Alob came down with two interceptions, both leading to Farrington touchdowns, and Liki Taoai recovered two fumbles, the second coming in the end zone to cap the scoring.
After opening the season with losses to Kamehameha and Campbell, Farrington (1-2, 1-1 OIA) avoided its first 0-3 start since 2005.

“We finally got back to playing the defense we usually play,” Farrington coach Randall Okimoto said. “It’s a good step for us as we get ready for next week. Kapolei is going to be tough, they’ve got a great defense.”
Farrington managed one first down in the first quarter, but the defense gave the Governors time to find a rhythm.
After starting quarterback Chris Afe-Alaivanu was shaken up, Eter completed five of his first seven attempts with touchdowns to Faamatau and Tre Barrett. Eter finished 8-for-19 for 109 yards.
“Stephen’s one of our captains and just did what he does best, lead the team,” Faamatau said.
