It’s an event for dog lovers, but food and drink for people are also on the list of attractions for Canine Game Day 2017 at Coral Crater Adventure Park.
The Hawaiian Humane Society stages the free annual event “to celebrate the human-animal bond, and get people to spend time outside with their family and pets,” said Suzy Tam, communications and community events manager. “There are not a whole lot of pet-friendly events that go on, so it’s always nice to be able to put them on.”
The afternoon’s lineup will include treats and cool pool dips for fur babies, along with various contests, including a speed contest in the Dog Derby, a wagging contest, best-trick contest and a dog-and-owner look-alike contest.

For hungry two-legged attendees, Bao Tao’n will be offering food for sale, Kona Ice of Kapolei/Ewa Beach will be making shave ice and Ulus Lemonade will have cooling beverages available.
Poi Dog Treats has four-legged attendees in mind with its doggie treats for sale.
Other vendors offer services or merchandise for pets and/or their people, including dog bandannas and leashes from Bub & Bean, human apparel by HakuAi Designs and gifts and wearables for pets and their people from Whiskers & Wags.
Social group Hawaii Pet Friends will be an exhibitor. Information on a mix of services including veterinary care, doggie day care, boarding, pet-sitting, dog massage, grooming and photography will be available from vendors on-site, including Kama‘aina K9 Adventures LLC, Kamp K9 Hawaii LLC, Kapolei Pet Hospital, Keri Nakahashi Photography, Maika‘i Pet Sitting & Mobile Grooming and That’s the Spot Hawaii.
The west side event might generate some hot dogs, so the Humane Society is offering them cooling dips in the pool during the event.
There are just a few days left in July, aka Microchip Madness month, during which 21 isle veterinary clinics have been offering to waive the cost of a doctor visit to provide microchipping for just $10. Participating clinics are listed on the society’s website, and the Hawaiian Humane Society itself offers microchipping from noon to 4 p.m. daily. The society’s service normally costs $20, making the July rate a 50 percent discount.
Last year some 1,200 pets were “chipped” during Microchip Madness, and the society hopes even more pet owners will take advantage of the offer to help reduce the number of lost pets.
