Man charged for threatening 2 with ax

A 44-year-old man has been charged after he allegedly brandished an ax and threatened to kill a man and a woman in Mapunapuna.

Michael T. Masuda was charged Tuesday with two counts of first-degree terroristic threatening, criminal property damage in the first-degree, second-degree assault and unauthorized entry of a motor vehicle. His bail has been set at $20,000.

At about 6:40 a.m. Monday in the industrial area of Mapunapuna, police said the victims — a 36-year-old woman and a 44-year-old man — were sitting inside a parked vehicle when Masuda approached them and brandished an ax.

He threatened to kill them and shattered a vehicle window.

Police said the male victim retrieved a dangerous instrument from his vehicle and tried to push Masuda out of his vehicle. A struggle ensued when both men sustained injuries. Masuda fled before police arrived.

Later that morning, police located him at a hospital where he was being treated for lacerations and arrested him.
