Rojas, Hornung lead UH baseball to key victory
Josh Rojas powered a two-run homer and Brendan Hornung pitched seven effective innings to lead the University of Hawaii baseball team to a 6-2 victory over UC Irvine tonight at Les Murakami Stadium.
By improving to 26-17 overall and 8-8 in the Big West, the ’Bows clinched a winning regular season with eight games remaining. Their last winning season was in 2012, when they went 30-25 in their final season in the Western Athletic Conference. The three-game Big West series continues on Sunday with a 5 p.m. game.
Hornung, who struggled in his three previous appearances, allowed six hits and one earned run to improve to 6-4.
Rojas’ two-run homer extended the UH lead to 5-2 in the sixth. It was his fifth home run this season after hitting none in 155 at bats last year.
