Vandals have damaged the storefront of a popular Kaimuki restaurant known for its decadent desserts.
A culprit or culprits shattered the front window of JJ French Pastry & Bistro at 3447 Waialae Ave. early Thursday morning.
Owner Jinjie “JJ” Praseuth Luangkhot said police arrived at his Kunia home just after 3:10 a.m. Thursday to alert him to the incident. A nearby business reported the broken window to police sometime before 2:40 a.m.
It’s unknown what was used to smash the window, leaving a large hole and shards of glass scattered on the sidewalk.
Luangkhot said nothing was taken from the restaurant. In a break-in more than five years ago, culprits stole cash and items, and damaged tables. “They destroyed everything,” he said.
The cost to replace the window is estimated at almost $1,500. Despite the vandalism, Luangkhot said the restaurant opened to patrons Thursday. He plans to board up the window with wood until it’s replaced.
JJ French Pastry & Bistro is a family-operated restaurant that has received many awards for its pastries and desserts and is widely known for its chocolate pyramid.
