During her undergraduate years at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, Enne Mae Guerrero felt like she didn’t have time for fashion. That’s changed now that she’s working full time in retail.
“You do hear a lot of people say that it’s not about looks, but you just can’t forget how being really put together can elevate your confidence,” she said.
A petite woman who stands just under 5 feet tall, Guerrero said even though her style has evolved, one thing has remained constant: her need for comfort.

“I don’t like to give up comfort, so even if that means I have to be professional and I have to wear heels, I’m gonna find the most comfortable heel,” she said.
She’s also a fan of buying local. Some of her favorite local brands include Jana Lam, Workshop 28 and Allison Izu Petites. Here are more of Guerrero’s style notes.
FASHION INSPIRATION
“One of my favorite social media influencers, fashion-wise, would probably be @extrapetite (Jean Wang of Boston, with 420,000 followers). She’s a tiny little Asian girl, and growing up I never really saw a lot of people like my size or minorities or people with Asian background.”
WHAT’S TRENDING
“One style that I like right now is off-the-shoulder tops. Working in Waikiki, I see tons of people from all over the place, and a lot of people say, ‘I can’t wear off-the-shoulder stuff because I’m going back home and it’s going to be really cold.’ But in Hawaii that kind of style never goes out of style, and everybody is always asking for off-the-shoulder pieces and it’s just a perfect island look.”
THE DENIM DILEMMA
“I don’t like to spend a ton of money, but one thing I don’t mind splurging on is a really good pair of denims. And being petite, it’s kind of hard to find good denims that fit right, so my favorite one is by Paige Denim, which is a really expensive brand but I got it way, way, way cheap at Anthropologie in the petites section.”
PREFERRED HANDBAG
“I like tote bags. I think it’s perfect for anybody on the go because you can put everything in there; you can put a bag in a bag. And with a tote bag you can kind of show your personality a little bit; you can always express things you like with fun prints or things that have funny sayings. Like one of my Workshop 28 tote bags says ‘Aloha Beaches’ on it and it’s really cool, and they’re local, too.”
PURSE ESSENTIAL
“Usually I keep matte lipstick because you never know who you’re going to run into or if you have somewhere to go to and you just have to be a little more put together. Just putting on a little bit of lip color just really helps amplify your look. My favorites are Marc Jacobs Enamored Hi-Shine Lip Lacquer in Taboo (a sheer mauve with shimmer) and Kat Von D matte lipstick.”
