Food is not only part of celebrations, it can be a cause for celebration, as it will be in Laie on Saturday at the Polynesian Cultural Center.
Hukilau Marketplace at the Polynesian Cultural Center is staging the grand opening of three new food trucks at its Roulotte Court.
Second Anniversary Celebration, Hukilau Marketplace
Where: Polynesian Cultural Center, 55-370 Kamehameha Highway, Laie
When: Noon-4 p.m. Saturday

The court was created after a street-market concept popular in Tahiti that encompasses a flea market, farmers market and food trucks, said Kahili Soon, marketplace manager.
It is free to attend and accessible, adjacent to the PCC parking lot, Soon said. Visitors can walk through the marketplace, which offers different shops and dining experiences, before they enter the admission-fee-required area, he said.
Redesigned, re-branded and repainted, the new trucks will be among the stars of the launch event.
Celebrity guests chef Sam Choy and Hawaii Sports Hall of Fame football player Junior Ah You will be on hand to keep the party going.
The two partnered up to launch Sam Choy & Tita’s Seafood & Poke Truck, a new iteration of the original Tita’s Grill truck, named for Ah You’s wife, Almira.
“One truck is surf, one truck is turf,” Soon said.
Additional new vendors are So’Da Bomb, serving specialty drinks; and Fia Fia Farms, which sells fresh fruit but also offers fresh fruit smoothies using any fruit the kiosk sells, and it is famous for its mango otai, a Polynesian smoothie, Soon explained.
Musicians from or with a special connection to Kahuku were invited to perform. Artists appearing include Vaihi and Roots Rockaz; performances will start at 12:30 and 2:30 p.m., respectively.
Because not all keiki will sit still for musical performances, activities like riding bouncy slides will help them burn off energy.
Face painting also will be offered, and given the food, fun and fancy-face opportunities, Instagrammers and other social media users will be glad to know that Hukilau Marketplace offers free Wi-Fi.
New Hukilau Marketplace tenant My Island Spa will debut with massages as short as 15 minutes or as long as one hour, for a fee.
