Woman released on bail in cliff crash that killed twin

Alexandria Duval, 38, was being held on a $3 million bail in the death of her sister, Anastasia.

A woman charged in a cliff crash that killed her twin is out of jail on a $200,000 cash bail.

Alexandria Duval, 38, was being held on a $3 million bail in the death of her sister, Anastasia, before a judge decided Thursday to allow her to post a reduced $2 million bond or $200,000 in cash for release, Maui News reported.

Duval has pleaded not guilty in the case.

She needs the court’s permission to leave Maui while out on bail.

“You may not even go to the airport terminals to pick anybody up,” 2nd Circuit Judge Peter Cahill had told Duval. “If you have family members coming here, they must make their own arrangements.”

Duval was also ordered to report for supervision as well as random drug and alcohol testing within 24 hours of her release on bail.

Attorney Todd Eddins had said his client’s father, Dr. John Dadow, was willing to contribute up to $250,000 for the cash bail.

“He has never been contacted by the prosecutors,” Eddins said. “He is supportive of his daughter here, to the extent he is willing to post $200,000 to $250,000 cash bail.”

Deputy Prosecutor Emlyn Higa had argued that Duval should also be required to post the $2 million bail bond.

Higa said Dadow “doesn’t have the same kind of motivation as the bond company to make sure she will be present for trial.”

Witnesses say they saw fighting inside a vehicle in May before it went over a cliff.

Police say the vehicle fell 200 feet, and Anastasia died at the scene.

It would be helpful if this article included the important fact of the actual charges, to help readers understand the appropriateness of the bail.
Maui News reports “…..has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder”.
An update to this article could fix that.

The Maui Prosecutors appear to me to be overly zealous in prosecuting this case and the bail demanded excessively high.
This incident was a tragic accident and both women were responsible for what happened. Seems like once this case attracted national attention
the Prosecutors office really dug in their heels like a pitbull with a bone. Makes you wonder if someone is seeing this case as a way to make themselves
a rep as it sure seems that way to me. Had the other twin survived, I suspect she would be treated the same way. It is almost as if the Prosecutor’s office on
Maui want someone to hang on their wall for whatever reason.
As far as a punishment, it would seem that Alexandria Duval has already suffered a punishment way over any the Court could reasonably impose.
At the most, I think a charge of negligent injury would be a fair and reasonable charge for Duval. I do not believe that Duval intended for what
did happen to occur. It is and was a tragic accident.

I don’t understand why the prosecution charged her with murder as this seems to be a accident that occurred due to both of them fighting…. I imagine that the defense will place blame on the deceased sister by claiming the crash is a result of her assaulting the driver which in turn caused her accidentally hit the accelerator…..
