Waikoloa man charged with multiple drug and firearm offenses

A Waikoloa man has been charged in connection with the seizure of more than 86 grams of suspected crystal methamphetamine, a .40-caliber pistol, and $116,000 in cash.

Derek Conway, 40, was arrested Thursday in a vehicle at a public park in Waikoloa, after Hawaii Island police found 57.7 grams of suspected crystal methamphetamine and a loaded .40-caliber pistol, police said.

He was charged with several felonies, including first-degree promotion of a dangerous drug and firearms offenses.

His bail was set at $198,000.

Police said in a search of Conway’s home Saturday, police officers found 28.8 grams of suspected crystal methamphetamine and 165 prescription pills as well as smaller amounts of suspected heroin, marijuana, Suboxone, and cocaine and $116,000 in cash.

His total bail rose to $243,000 for the additional offenses.
