Inauguration in sight, Trump continues Twitter assault

ASSOCIATED PRESS

President-elect Donald Trump spoke with reporters Friday in the lobby of Trump Tower in New York. Trump is continuing to lash out at critics in the intelligence community and Democrats in Congress who are vowing to skip his swearing-in ceremony.

NEW YORK >> His inauguration days away, President-elect Donald Trump is continuing to lash out at critics in the intelligence community and Democrats in Congress who are vowing to skip his swearing-in ceremony.

The tough-talking Republican questioned whether the CIA director himself was “the leaker of fake news” in a Sunday night tweet.

The extraordinary criticism from the incoming president came hours after CIA chief John Brennan charged that Trump lacks a full understanding of the threat Moscow poses to the United States, delivering a public lecture to the president-elect that further highlighted the bitter state of Trump’s relations with American intelligence agencies.

“Now that he’s going to have an opportunity to do something for our national security as opposed to talking and tweeting, he’s going to have tremendous responsibility to make sure that U.S. and national security interests are protected,” Brennan said on “Fox News Sunday,” warning that the president-elect’s impulsivity could be dangerous.

Trump shot back in a Twitter post Sunday, saying: “Oh really, couldn’t do much worse – just look at Syria (red line), Crimea, Ukraine and the build-up of Russian nukes. Not good! Was this the leaker of Fake News?”

The president-elect remained behind closed doors in his Manhattan high-rise for the weekend as his team worked to answer questions about his plans at home and abroad once he’s sworn into office on Friday.

Among Trump’s immediate challenges: the United States’ complicated relationship with Russia, crafting an affordable health care alternative that doesn’t strip coverage from millions of Americans and dealing with an assertion by Rep. John Lewis, a civil rights icon, that his election was not legitimate.

Without providing details, Trump promised his plan to replace the nation’s health care law would provide universal coverage, according to a Washington Post interview published late Sunday.

“We’re going to have insurance for everybody,” he said. “There was a philosophy in some circles that if you can’t pay for it, you don’t get it. That’s not going to happen with us.”

In a separate interview with the Times of London, Trump indicated that he could lift sanctions imposed on Russia for its military intervention in Ukraine in exchange for a nuclear arms deal. The suggestion met a frosty reception in Moscow.

Meanwhile, a growing number of Democrats in Congress have vowed to skip Trump’s inauguration.

“We cannot normalize Donald Trump, and we certainly cannot turn our heads and ignore such a threat to the institutions and values of our democracy,” Rep. Jerrold Nadler of New York said today in a statement.

Trump’s lieutenants pushed back hard, particularly against Rep. John Lewis, D-Ga., a civil rights legend who said Russian interference in Trump’s election delegitimizes his presidency.

“I think it’s incredibly disappointing and I think it’s irresponsible for people like himself to question the legitimacy of the next United States president,” incoming White House chief of staff Reince Priebus said of Lewis on ABC’s “This Week,” insisting that Republicans did not question the legitimacy of President Barack Obama’s victory eight years ago. Vice President-elect Mike Pence said on “Fox News Sunday” that he hopes Lewis will change his mind and attend.

Priebus later acknowledged that conservatives — led by Trump himself — spent years questioning Obama’s eligibility to serve as president, suggesting he was not born in the United States.

Trump has done little to encourage unity in recent days, instead inflaming tensions with his critics through a series of tweets. The incoming president tweeted Saturday that Lewis should pay more attention to his “crime ridden” Atlanta-area district, adding that the civil rights leader was “all talk.”

Questions about Trump’s relationship with Russia have dominated the days leading up to his inauguration.

Michael Flynn, who is set to become Trump’s national security adviser, has been in frequent contact with Russia’s ambassador to the U.S. in recent weeks, including on the day the Obama administration hit Moscow with sanctions in retaliation for the alleged election hacking, a senior U.S. official said.

After initially denying the contact took place, Trump’s team publicly acknowledged the conversations on Sunday.

“The conversations that took place at that time were not in any way related to the new U.S. sanctions against Russia or the expulsion of diplomats,” said Pence.

Repeated contacts just as Obama imposed sanctions would raise questions about whether Trump’s team discussed — or even helped shape — Russia’s response. Russian President Vladimir Putin unexpectedly did not retaliate against the U.S. for the sanctions or the expulsion of 35 Russian diplomats, a decision Trump quickly praised.

Trump has repeatedly called for a better relationship between the U.S. and Putin’s government. He suggested in an interview with The Wall Street Journal on Friday that he’d consider easing the latest sanctions on Russia.

“I think he has to be mindful that he does not have a full appreciation and understanding of what the implications are of going down that road,” Brennan said.

The Russian FSB, Putin’s intelligence agency has operatives in US. Many super rich Russian businessmen have stakes in many corporations in this country. They have back doors, hacking, into the people running these corporations, and have compromising information about them, and can subject them to blackmail. ALPHA GROUP, the ostensible Russian investment group for Russia, is controlled and directed by the Russian FSB, in other words, directed by Putin, who has been head of the Russian KGB. ALPHA GROUP has their offices in many countries in the world, and has a main office in Massachusetts. Russian operatives, compromised corporate and political leaders, have hacked into our economic, political, technical systems. They have infiltrated into our government, and our country, to undermine and subvert our democracy, values, civil and human rights.

      Well said comrade Keoni.
These lame Dumbocrats and Obummer puppets are in denial. They LOST. Sad.
Trump the winner, had the biggest classiest win ever. Landslide. Mandate.

The victory is made that much sweeter and classier by the fact that Trump won in a landslide even though he lost the popular vote, and
that Trump had narrow margins in most states, and
that Trump asked for help from Russian hackers, and
that Trump got help from Putin’s KGB hackers, and
that Putin is probably blackmailling Trump with videos of degrading sex acts (never happened), and
that Trump admits to being a serial adulterer and sex offender but it’s ok because he’s a star, and
that Trump’s strong Sec of State pick is Putin’s pick too, and
that Teump’s classy advisors also have deep ties to Russia, and
that Trump’s classiest top advisor, Steve “alt-rt” Bannon, admits to being a Lenninist and wanting to destroy the state and to idolizing Satan, and
that Trump’s controversial cabinet nominations want to gut and cripple the LAME agencies they will “lead”, and
that Trump’s magnificent hotels and businesses worldwide will be luxurious targets for corruption and terrorism, and
that Trump has amassed his empire by negotiating shrewd deals, then reneging on them and brilliantly bullying and suing contractors and workers (and by dodging taxes – genius!), and
that Trump’s strong classy genius is misperceived as obnoxious, erratic, petty and vindictive, and
that Trump was brave enough to smear Obummer and questioned his legitimacy out of beautiful patriotism but now more and more LOSERS question his wondrous legitimacy, and
      and…
      and…

      whew…

(My thumbs sure are sore. Is this what Trump feels like after unleashing a tweet storm? How does Trump keep doing it again and again? Trump’s strength and stamina are awesome)

Only a strong classy winner like Trump is able to win in spite of flaunting bigotry, greed, deceit, lies, and angry, obnoxious, erratic, unhinged behavior.

It’s like Trump winning a boxing match with one hand tied behind his back,
          and being blindfolded,

Could Obama do that? No F-in way. Loser.

Who do you want as president, a winner like Obummer who loses, or a loser like Trump who wins?

          Winning answer: Trump.

(Well technically Obama never lost, but you get the point.
It. Is. Not. About. The. Facts. Anymore.)

Trump is a winner, who does anything to win at getting what he wants.

If you want to have an insight of the Russian Putin cyber and intelligence operations in this country and internationally, Google and download from Buzzfeed the 35 page dossier compiled by the British MI6 agent that has circulated throughout our intelligence and security agencies, and now under investigation in the Senate Intelligence Committee. Read the entire document, it is very frightening and sinister. Also Google information about Alpha Group, which has operatives in the USA and many countries internationally. Alpha Group is a front for the Russian Central Intelligence Agency, the FSB. You find an incredible amount of information about its operations in Russia, during the Soviet Era, and up to the present.

      • droid says:

The dossier does not provide a shred of evidence to back up its assertions. Maybe the meat can be found in the classified version (unavailable on google due to it being classified). Ultimately, we owe the Russians a debt of gratitude for hacking Hillary and Podesta’s emails and showing us just how truly rotten to the core a candidate she really was.

What the Russians did shouldn’t matter. Unless you don’t WANT people to know what Hillary talks about when she thinks no one is listening.

What’s gonna happen when he looks out the Oval Office window and sees the Secret Service out there? I bet he’ll holler at them “Get off my lawn, you young punks!” Then he’ll send a tweet that begins “Damn kids these days…”

  3. nalogirl says:

Trump would stop the “inflammatory ” tweets when politicians and the Intel community stop calling him a fake PE and accept the fact that he won. This just shows why half of the voting population voted for Trump. We are tired of being shoved to the side and being accused of bring racist ir psychotic. To say that you don’t want to normalize Trump’s presidency is a slap in the face for all who voted for Trump. These politicians better shape up ans be ready for their new commander in chief.

    • Vector says:

    • klastri says:

nalogirl – How often did you whine about Mr. Trump spending five long years trying to reduce the legitimacy of Mr. Obama’s win? I’m betting not very often. Mr. Trump lied for years (no surprise there – he lies about everything, always) that Mr. Obama was not a legitimate President because he was not born in the United States. That was after Mr. Obama won by an actual landslide – not the one Trump supporters have fabricated.

      Grow up/

      • nalogirl says:

I am grown up, stop being so condescending, it unbecoming of you. • Boots says:

He will soon not be called a fake PE but just a phony president who was elected by a minority of the votes after republicans ran a successful voter suppression effort. Be proud of a party that is afraid of true democracy where everyone can vote. Main reason I won’t vote for them.

It’s remarkable that any thinking adult believes that a 70 year-old President-Elect should be lashing out at people on Twitter. Mr. Trump is acting – as he always has – like a spoiled 13 year-old in an obese orange body. Adults do not do the things that Mr. Trump does.

Mrs. Trump has apparently chosen to separate from him and that decision will cost the NYPD more than $10 million per month, and that does not include the extraordinary costs for the Secret Service. This is probably wonderful thing for Mrs. Trump (who gets to escape a psychotic husband who brags about serial sexual assault of women) but it’s grim for the taxpayer. Odd that Trump’s pathetic supporters complained constantly about the cost of Mr. Obama’s vacations have been totally silent about the decision by Trump to have two White House facilities.

He is obviously mentally ill. This is going to end very badly for the United States.

My hope is that Trump’s malfeasance completely destroys the entire Republican Party. They created this monster, and not it’s time they own him.

They haven’t accepted the fact that the majority of voters in most of the States were tired of government not representing the will of the people. This didn’t start with Trump. They seem to ignore that over a thousand elected officials have been replaced with Republicans because the voters do no agree with the direction of the country. After losing both houses of Congress, Trump was able to overcome the bias of the media and Hollywood to do everything in their power to elect Hillary. In fact, I believe it was the blatant bias and criticism of Trump that put him over the top. It is amazing to watch him beat the media at their own game. As the name calling continues, I believe it is only strengthening the PE’s position and support from the public. I also believe the public will be surprised at what an individual with executive and business experience can accomplish.

What’s this 10 million a month for his wife all about?

    • klastri says:

Mrs. Trump is not moving to the White House.

    • Vector says:

The 10 million per month is payment to the New York Police Department, and the city of New York for protecting and securing Trump tower, and Trump’s wife Melania and his son Baron. Melania does not want to leave New York, so Baron can continue to attend school in New York.

      • klastri says:

That’s the story, at least. Talk is that she will never move. It would be a great opportunity to escape him.

        • nalogirl says:

The “talk” is she will never move. Really! Trying to spread rumors. She will be moving to the WH after her son finishes school in June.

        • DannoBoy says:

SOLVING THE TRUMP TOWER PROBLEM THE WAY A WINNER LIKE TRUMP WOULD DO IT?

OPTION 1 – New York has one of the most expansive eminent domain laws in the country, and has condemned property as “blighted” for fairly flimsy reasons; such as hindering traffic, impeding commerce and draining tax dollars could be sufficient. Officials just need to find some alternate use for Trump Tower that they reasonably believe better serves the city’s interests. Of course, the city would have to pay Trump the fair-market value of the property, about $471 million.

OPTION 2 – If New York wants to cut its costs, however, it could instead place a negative easement on Trump Tower, one that allowed Trump to retain ownership but prevented any presidents or presidents-elect from living there. The city would have to compensate Trump for lost value to the property as a result, but that would likely be small.

OPTION 3 – Finally, if the city were especially cheap (and cheeky), it could declare Trump’s active residence in Trump Tower a “public nuisance, meaning: any activity or physical condition that “obstructs, damages or inconveniences the rights of a community,” auch as damaging one of the world’s top shopping destinations and placing a big ol’ terrorism target on its back. If the city allows Trump to continue to damage his neighbors, it will have effectively taken the neighbors’ property without just compensation. Which might suggest government has an obligation to act. The best part about this “public nuisance” strategy (besides its name)? The city could condemn Trump Tower without having to pay Trump “just compensation.” It wouldn’t owe him a dime, in fact.

Q: Which solution would a winner like Trump pick?
A: If you have to ask you haven’t been paying attention.

Q: Which solution will the NYC Libs pick.
A: Trick question. None of the above.

These LOSERS will just keep spending $millions every week. It’s not their money (or Trump’s for that matter. Trump pays no taxes, remember? Pure Genius.)

          Klastri, don’t be so oppugnant.

        • klastri says:

hawaiikone – I read that Forbes article a while back and wrote to Forbes that it should be retracted. It used flawed data. Badly flawed. A lot of people asked for a retraction.

Insurance industry-funded studies exclude private plans’ marketing costs and profits from their calculation of administrative costs. Even so, Medicare’s overhead is dramatically lower.

Medicare administrative cost figures include the collection of Medicare taxes, fraud and abuse controls, and building costs. Insurance companies do not include any costs for facility capital, lease costs or leasehold improvements. Despite that, Medicare costs are much lower.

I stand by my comment. It’s correct.

        • hawaiikone says:

klas, I used that particular article as it was relatively short and easily understood. It seems reasonable in it’s conclusions. One has to remember, if we’re discussing Medicare vs. insurance, that overhead costs are driven by the rapidly increasing billing requirements legislated by the ACA, which preclude payment for incorrectly coded transcriptions and necessitate the use of college educated code specialists. Of course checking the work of others for accuracy requires far less employee effort than the creation of the work itself. Adding to that the fact that arbitration is entirely controlled by one side of the equation further tips the scales. If the government were tasked to perform identical functions within specific cost parameters, the results would essentially be another government.
All that aside, my original comment alluded to the overall premise that our government does anything as efficiently as the private sector. Too many examples over too many years make such an assertion entirely laughable.

        • klastri says:

hawaiikone – The fact that the article was short should have made it suspect. In any event, it has been totally debunked. The data was impossibly flawed because it excluded facility, marketing costs and profit.

Medicare is much more efficient and less expensive to operate than healthcare insurance companies. There’s no comparison at all. None.

        • klastri says:

lespark – Actually, I’m right. The article cited has been debunked as impossibly flawed. If you understood anything, you’d see the issue.

I wouldn’t expect you know to anything about the subject matter, since you don’t seem to know anything about anything. So so surprise there.

Enjoy the Trump administration while it lasts. The opposition will be fighting him constantly, and reminding him every day that he lost the popular vote. It’s going to eat him alive.

        • hawaiikone says:

klas, it’s difficult to argue with you on a point we substantially agree on. Again, my initial reaction was based on the still ludicrous premise that government is more efficient than a profit based private entity. Countless examples abound proving otherwise.
I approve of Medicare, and predict that eventually we will create a one payer system, but also realize the inherent unfairness of contrasting the lower administrative cost of it’s services when compared to private health insurers. Of course the lack of transparency, the rigid operating parameters, the necessity of board pleasing profits, and the inability to negotiate provider prices from such a commanding position as the government will naturally drive up administrative expenses. We’re not actually comparing apples to apples here, which is essentially the only point I’m trying to establish.

  18. Dai says:

“I think it’s incredibly disappointing and I think it’s irresponsible for people like himself to question the legitimacy of the next United States president,” incoming White House chief of staff Reince Priebus said of Lewis on ABC’s “This Week,” insisting that Republicans did not question the legitimacy of President Barack Obama’s victory eight years ago.
Priebus later acknowledged that conservatives — led by Trump himself — spent years questioning Obama’s eligibility to serve as president, suggesting he was not born in the United States.

Incredibly disappointing and irresponsible to question…What hypocrisy are we talking about?
