President Barack Obama spent part of Christmas Eve eating at Side Street Inn in the Ala Moana area and testing his wits to “break out” of an “escape room” in Waikiki.
Obama began the eighth day of his two-week vacation with his usual workout at the gym on Marine Corps Base Hawaii in Kaneohe.
At about 1 p.m., he left his Kailua rental and headed to Side Street Inn on Kona Street with his daughters and friends for lunch.
After lunch, Obama, his daughters, and family friends took a short drive to Breakout Waikiki, described as “Hawaii’s first live-action escape room.” The Kaiulani Avenue attraction says on its website that customers have 60 minutes to break out of one of the escape rooms by cracking codes, using their gut, and solving riddles.
Obama and his entourage emerged from Breakout Waikiki at 5 p.m. after being inside for about an hour and a half.
The motorcade slowed to just a few miles per hour at times while heading through Waikiki. Upon seeing the motorcade driving down Kalakaua Avenue, dozens of tourists followed the vehicles, hoping to catch a glimpse of the president.
Meanwhile, Michelle Obama told kids across the country on Saturday how much progress Santa made in his gift-giving journey.
Obama volunteered to take calls through the NORAD Tracks Santa program. It was the last time she carried out her annual tradition.
