Kaneohe woman accused of $1.3 million theft makes court appearance

COURTESY HPD

Tamila Alcoran

A 49-year-old Kaneohe woman pleaded not guilty to charges of stealing $1.3 million from a landscaping company.

Tamila A. Alcoran appeared before Circuit Judge Colette Garibaldi via closed circuit video link from the Oahu Community Correctional Center Monday after she was indicted for 311 counts of first-degree identity theft, first-degree computer fraud, first-degree theft and other charges.

Her trial date is set for the week of Feb. 21. She remains in custody in lieu of $1 million bail.

Alcoran’s attorney, Myles Breiner, said, “I think the case was grossly overcharged.”

“The bail of $1 million dollars is outrageous,” he said.

Honolulu Deputy Prosecutor Chris Van Marter has described the embezzlement case as one of the worst the prosecutor’s office have ever seen against small business.

Alcoran allegedly instigated numerous, elaborate schemes to steal hundreds of thousands of money from Greg Boyer Hawaiian Landscapes where she worked as an office manager.

In 2006, Alcoran was convicted of stealing more than $40,000 from the American Youth Soccer Organization’s Kaneohe region where she served as a coach and volunteer. Her family paid back the money and a judge sentenced her to five year’s probation and 300 hours of community service.

In her previous theft case, ” Her family paid back the money”. Maybe there is a need for a little “tough love” with this woman, and let her face up to her own crimes and punishment? It appears she did not learn her lesson when she had the benefit of family stepping in last time to help her.

How can one be so intelligent to ripped off others and an imbecile to distinguish right from wrong?

Miles Brenner is an ambulance chaser that needs to get a reality check. Don’t understand how he can really make that kind of irresponsible statement. His client is guilty as they come. Yeah I know innocent until proven guilty, but there is a lot of info out there.

  5. peanutgallery says:

Everyone knows this woman needs to go to jail. Any bets on what our judiciary does with her?

  6. islandsun says:

This is a repeat offender dont let her out again.

  7. reamesr1 says:

Alcoran’s attorney, Myles Breiner, said, “I think the case was grossly overcharged.” And so the door is open for him to grossly overcharge his client. Thanks SA for her picture, we know who to watch for.

Lock her up and put her next to Hillary Clinton.

  9. Commando1 says:

How can $1.3 million go undetected? Don’t they do audits every year? Company should be shut down just because of ignorance on owners part. Geezzzzz.

  10. Shawn211 says:

Its so interesting that knowing committed this crime but she pleas not guilty? She should be locked up forever and put on a bread and water diet !!!

  11. usahwn says:

She always had plans to be a millionaire before age 50 , the American dream.

  12. paniolo says:

That’s what happens when the judge just gave her 5 years probation and 300 hours community service in her 2006 case. This almost sounds like the Kahala burglary crook that was sentenced to 5 years in prison in 2011 because the judge gave him a “break” instead of a longer sentence. He came out in 2016 and burglarized several homes and assaulted an elderly woman. People like them don’t learn. Forget about probation and breaks. Keep them behind bars.

She needs to be put away for a long time. She ruined the guys business and life.

Seriously: “steal hundreds of thousands of money”
No one can see how poorly this is written?

  16. paniolo says:

She stole, $1.3 million. Bail should be $1.4 million. “The bail of $1 million dollars is outrageous.” Too bad Breiner.

    • hcsr says:

with that one comment Breiner has already started to earn some of the money he has probably already collected from her that still belongs toother people. Pretty sad that Breiner will just say he has no idea where the money he gets comes from. She should have a public defender but obviously has a lot of money to afford a well known attorney.

  17. nodaddynotthebelt says:

She’ll probably get a slap on the wrist.

  18. control says:

I can see it now. With our weak court system they will probably send her to jail for a short time and ask her to pay back the 1.3 million by paying it back at $200 a month. Not even taking care of the interest due from the 1.3 mil. Too bad we don’t have a tougher court system, crime does pay in Hawaii. There was the other lady who stole over 200k and was given a slap on the wrist and allowed to pay a small amount that will never make up for the amount she stole.

  19. Upperkula says:

SA had another picture of the women a couple day’s ago. What’s up SA?

    • paniolo says:

Yeah, I saw that too. Maybe this pic is from 2006 when she was caught the first time. I think the other pic is the mug shot for this arrest. Not sure, tho…
