For the first time, immediately following the Ewa Beach Lions Club Community Christmas Parade on Saturday, the community can further celebrate the season at the Ewa Beach Holiday Festival.
Ewa Beach Holiday Festival
Where: Ewa Beach Elementary School, 91-740 Papipi Road
When: 11 a.m.- 5 p.m. Saturday
Cost: Free
Info: ewabeachelementary.org
At least 10 food vendors and trucks will participate in the inaugural community event at Ewa Beach Elementary School, offering treats including acai bowls from Shaka Bowls; burgers, fries, pizza, pasta dishes and shrimp from Biztro on Wheels; Dragon Cones’ fat-free soft-serve ice cream in gluten-free, J-shaped tubes made from organic corn; and fried ice cream and treats from Heart to Table, to name just a few.
About 20 other vendors will be at the festival selling gifts ranging from children’s books to wooden Hawaii jewelry boxes, jewelry, handbags and Christmas wreaths, said Delia Clark, the parent- community networking center facilitator at Ewa Beach Elementary.
“I’ve seen Kapolei, Honolulu, and different areas have their holiday (celebrations). But Ewa Beach never had one, so this year I decided I would start one,” she said. “Our school held a Spring Bazaar in April that was such a success, the vendors really loved it, and I thought it would be nice to do something for the holidays.”
Clark has been a liaison between parents, community and school for three years and a parent at the school for seven years. She wanted to plan the event for right after the Christmas parade because in previous years once the parade was over, people would “just go home. There was nothing else fun for the families to do,” she said.
Activities for the kids will include a stuff-a-stocking booth hosted by the Parent Ohana, the school’s PTA, which is raising money for school projects. For $5 anyone will be able to stuff a stocking with small toys and other items, either as a gift or for themselves.
A football toss, water bottle toss and basketball game will be among the activities offered for a small fee, Clark said.
Santa Claus will roam the grounds to give those in attendance a chance to take a selfie with him.
