For Punahou School student Kalliyan Davis, fashion is an expression of both her personality and her talent as a musician.
When not in school, she can be found performing professionally with her band, 85 Decibels, shredding her way through guitar solos. They play at events and rock venues around the island.
Davis is also a songwriter and singer, and recently signed with Niche Models & Talent to explore the acting and modeling side of the entertainment business. She checked in via email to provide some insight into teenage fashion in Hawaii.

FAVORITE DAY LOOK
“Probably just jeans, a tucked-in T-shirt and sneakers. I usually get my jeans from H&M because they have the best prices and the nicest cuts. Sometimes I’ll add a bomber jacket (cool decals optional) if it gets cold — cold meaning anything less than 75 degrees, of course.”
FAVORITE LOOK ON STAGE
“I usually wear a mesh shirt, ripped jeans and sneakers or boots. I love to wear mesh onstage because it lets me cool off. I wear mesh all the time because I feel like it’s a very modern material.”
SHOE-INS
“I have a super-cool pair of red leather Vans Sk8-Hi’s that have mesh cutouts so you can see what socks I’m wearing. I love Sk8-Hi’s in general. This is my second pair already.”
BEAUTY MUST-HAVE
“I can’t live without my face masks. I love using face masks from a lot of popular Korean brands like Nature Republic, The Face Shop and Tony Moly. They just make my face feel so soft and hydrated.”
FALL DRESSING
“Since it’s hard to wear anything that covers past my elbows without sweating buckets, I think wearing fall colors will do. One of my favorite looks is a plaid shirt with overalls and boots so I look like I’m about to harvest some corn.”
PAIRINGS
“Definitely high-waisted pants and a crop top. I have a bunch of band crop tops from Metallica, Foo Fighters, etc. I usually find a bunch of them for really cheap at Forever 21. If I run out of crop tops, I’ll just wear a normal T-shirt and tuck it in. Occasionally I’ll throw in a baseball cap.”
HOLIDAY ATTIRE
“I think a lacy blouse and a skirt are a nice pair. I like to wear typical fall colors like red, brown and gold. I’ve found that Forever 21’s dressy tops fit me pretty well, and their designs are always new. It’s also ridiculously cheap to buy an outfit that looks good from F21.”
