Age: 37
Residence: Kailua
Occupation: Event and sales manager, The Modern Honolulu
With a high-profile job managing events at The Modern Honolulu in Waikiki, and in her role as mother of two boys, ages 7 and 10, Brandy Antonelis calls herself a “fashion chameleon.” She manages to pull together outfits — sometimes using disparate pieces — that look great, mixing modern sophistication with bohemian island touches.
“To me, fashion is art for the day,” said Antonelis, a Kamehameha Schools and University of Washington graduate. “I always try to wear something unique or make the outfit different somehow, whether it’s the jewelry, a cool print, a texture or a color that looks good on my skin. I stick to colors that complement my skin tone. Fit is key too. I never buy anything that doesn’t fit or is the wrong size.”
Dressing for comfort
“Pajamas are my favorite! I have a soft cheetah set from P.J. Salvage that I’ve worn for years. If I’m not in my PJs, I’m comfortable in workout pants from Bia Brazil/Lululemon and muscle tanks. I’ve been going to Egan Inoue’s Fit Body Bootcamp for six years, so I have a lot of inventory. When I’m working out I always have a headband. Soybu makes really comfortable ones. When I’m shuttling my boys to their activities, I’m usually in cutoff jeans shorts and tank tops.”
Must-have accessories
“Some of my favorite buys are from Ho‘oululani Jewelry, Ocean Secrets and Kamaha‘o Designs. I’m definitely a bargain shopper and will buy statement jewelry at discount shops like Saks, Ross, T.J. Maxx. My favorite copper aviators, wallet and purse are from Tory Burch, but I’m not really into brands that much.”
Shopping destination
“I find cute pieces everywhere I go, whether it’s high end or low end. The fun part is mixing it all up together. I like shopping in Kailua. We have antique stores with funky jewelry, then there are some newer boutiques like Industry that I’m loving right now. Zara has been killing it for me when I’m shopping for work clothes. Even Target has some nice staples.”
Favorite beauty product
“I’ve been using Nerium for my skin care, and Cetaphil is a staple in my family. Since I went blonde, thanks to Alan at Salon Blanc, I’ve been using Kerastase products that really help take care of it. I mix in plumeria conditioner from Alba to make it smell good and doTERRA oils for everything, of course.”
Wardrobe MVP
“Confidence and happiness make everything look good. The clothes are just a bonus. But if I really had to choose an MVP it would be comfort shoes. At work, I need to be able to look good but also move around quickly. Clarks and Aerosoles have really nice, nonslip styles that you would never think are comfort shoes. I work my outfits around the shoes, build from the bottom up, so I always make sure I have solid shoes in black, gray, brown and nude.”
