Thousands of shoppers flocked Friday to the newest mall in West Oahu.
More than half of the roughly 100 tenants at Ka Makana Alii, a 1.4 million-square-foot shopping center under construction in Kapolei, opened to the public.
A few stores were already open. Macy’s opened Sept. 1, while California Pizza Kitchen and Hampton Inn &Suites by Hilton started taking reservations earlier this month. The rest are opening later this year and in 2017, representatives of Florida- based DeBartolo Development, which is building the project, previously told the Honolulu Star-Advertiser.
Among the businesses that opened are an upscale Consolidated Theatre, H&M, Forever 21 and Victoria’s Secret.
“We have so many great tenants opening their doors today and in the coming months that will enhance the shopping experience here for our residents and visitors alike,” said Stephanie England, the mall’s general manager, in a news release.
The center, which is leasing the land from the state Department of Hawaiian Home Lands, is expected to generate more than $1 billion in revenue over 65 years to support the construction of homes for beneficiaries, as well as Native Hawaiian programs statewide.
The mall’s latest retailers to sign on include Rascal Flatts, a restaurant and bar founded by popular country trio Rascal Flatts; Limon Rotisserie, a Peruvian eatery; European fashion retailer b.young; Hollister; Kasa Living and Clair de Lune, a Canadian home goods store; SoHa Living; Red Pineapple, specializing in gourmet snacks and home goods; HI Cravings; and Coffee Bean &Tea Leaf.
