Izumo Taisha Mission of Hawaii will celebrate its 110th anniversary at its annual Thanksgiving Festival.
The fest is set for Oct. 9 at the mission at 215 N. Kukui St., across from the Chinese Cultural Plaza.
The Mikoshi Gojinko ceremony at 12:30 p.m. will open the festival. During a thanksgiving prayer service, festivalgoers will express “gratitude for blessings bestowed on our families, businesses and nation,” according to a news release.
Celebration ceremonies will follow at 2 p.m. on a stage. A fellowship supper will be served from 2:30 p.m., after Mochimaki. Special entertainment starts at 3 p.m.
A banquet will begin at 6 p.m. Oct. 10 at the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel, $80 (adults) to $25 (children) per ticket. Cathy Foy Mahi and others will provide entertainment. Reservations can be made by calling Izumo, 538-7778, or emailing izumotaisha@hawaii.rr.com.
Learn about Jewish plots
A meeting about available burial plots at Abraham’s Garden, a Jewish cemetery within Kaneohe’s Hawaiian Memorial Park, will be held Oct. 9.
There are 50 burial plots for sale, and about 50 have been sold, according to a news release issued by Don Armstrong, owner and manager of Abraham’s Garden, and longtime president of Congregation Sof Ma’arav.
The meeting is set for 11 a.m. at Abraham’s Garden, 45-425 Kamehameha Highway.
