The Honolulu medical examiner’s office has identified the two men who died over the weekend in separate traffic accidents.

Matt Moe, 49, died after a two-vehicle crash about 4:45 p.m. Saturday at Farrington Highway and Nanakuli Avenue in Nanakuli. The driver of the other vehicle, a 23-year-old Kaneohe man, was arrested on suspicion of first-degree negligent homicide and driving under the influence of an intoxicant. The suspect was released pending further investigation on Saturday.

The other traffic death was a pedestrian, David Kealoha Jr., 76, who was critically injured Sunday when he was struck by a sport utility vehicle while trying to cross Kalanianaole Highway in Waimanalo. He was taken to the hospital, where he later died. The driver of the SUV, a 49-year-old Ewa Beach man, was uninjured.

There have been 41 traffic deaths on Oahu so far this year, compared with 34 at the same time last year.

Man tied up and robbed in hotel room

Police were looking for two men who bound, beat up, and robbed a 49-year-old man who invited the suspects up to his Waikiki hotel room Sunday, police said.

The incident took place over several hours, from about 10:20 p.m. Sunday to about 3:25 a.m. Monday, police said.

Police said the victim met the two suspects outside his hotel and invited them up to his room where the men assaulted him, tied him up, and took his belongings before fleeing.

Police opened a kidnapping and second-degree robbery investigation.

Hiker who died was Kapolei resident

The Honolulu medical examiner’s office on Monday identified a 37-year-old man who died Sunday while hiking a Tantalus trail as Aldrich Visitacion of Kapolei.

Visitacion died of artherosclerotic coronary disease with thrombosis, or a hardening of the arteries with a blood clot, the medical examiner’s office said.

Visitacion collapsed while hiking Puu Ohia Trail at about 4:40 p.m. Sunday. Police said Emergency Medical Services personnel responded, but could not revive Visitacion. There were no signs of foul play.

Man died by drowning, officials say

A 48-year-old man found in the ocean off Waialua last week drowned, the Honolulu medical examiner’s office said Monday.

The office identified the man as Llewellyn Spillner, who was homeless, and said the manner of his death was an accident. Police said Spillner was found unresponsive in the ocean and was brought to shore at about 1:10 p.m. Thursday. Paramedics responded, but could not revive Spillner.

Police said there were no suspicious circumstances.

Case spurs charge of unauthorized entry

A 35-year-old Honolulu man arrested Wednesday for allegedly burglarizing a Kaimuki house was charged Thursday with second-degree unauthorized entry into a dwelling and first-degree criminal property damage.

Police said Carlos Chang of Alexander Street was initially arrested on suspicion of first-degree burglary, abuse of a family member and first-degree criminal property damage.

Chang allegedly entered the home while the victim was inside. The victim called police and Chang was found and arrested nearby.

Chang’s bail was set at $20,000.
