Gov. David Ige has appointed Edmund (Fred) Hyun to be the interim chairman of the Hawaii Paroling Authority.
Hyun replaces Bert Matsuoka. His appointment is subject to Senate approval.
Hyun is a member of the Corrections Population Management Commission and the Holomua Pu‘uhonua Committee. His recent jobs include a four-year stint with Akal Security Pacific region and two positions with the Honolulu Liquor Commission: contract administrative services officer and special projects coordinator.
Before retiring from the Department of Public Safety in 2013, Hyun held a variety of jobs at Oahu Community Correctional Center for more than 30 years. He also worked at the Hawaii Youth Correctional Facility and started a halfway house for committed wards.
