A police pursuit Tuesday afternoon ended with the arrest of a serial car thief on the H-1 freeway in Aiea, police said.
It was the 24-year-old suspect’s third alleged police chase this year.
The suspect, Bryson Bagio, was arrested on $200,000 in warrants for failing to appear in court Aug. 3 in two car theft cases.
Other charges were pending.
Michelle Yu, Honolulu Police Department spokeswoman, said officers spotted Bagio in Kalihi at about 4:15 p.m. and arrested him after a crash in the westbound lanes of the freeway at about 4:20 p.m. She said witnesses reported multiple collisions.
Bagio has had two car theft convictions in the past two years, including one in January, where he led police on a chase in a stolen van and hit a fence, court documents said.
In a pending case, Bagio is accused of stealing a truck near Turtle Bay Resort in June and leading police on a chase from the North Shore to Aiea to Kaneohe and to Kailua, police said. While in Kaneohe, he struck a car driven by a 74-year-old woman, police said.
