This month’s Sunset Mele on the Rooftop on Saturday at the Hawai‘i Convention Center is sponsored by the Office of Hawaiian Affairs.
It promises poi pounding demonstrations, lauhala weaving, ulu maika makahiki games and eight food vendors, including one with food themed according to a character in the DreamWorks family movie “Home,” which will be screened during the event.

The Boov musubi, special to the event, is a teriyaki hot dog musubi with hot dogs cut to look like the Boov — characters in the movie who are hive-minded and believe happiness is achieved through conformity.
Another themed item to be served will be Kauai favorite UFO’s, a nod to the outer space characters in the film, made up of a slice of Goteborg sausage topped with a scoop of rice and finished with furikake.
Other food in the lineup includes bowls made with kalua pork, pastele stew, Spam or chicken musubi; cookies and other baked goods; and homemade brittle and cotton candy, all available for purchase. Smoothies and Waimanalo lemonade will be served. Vendors will also sell fresh produce.
At the Sunset Mele Market Place, look for artisans selling one-of-a-kind handcrafted items.
Live entertainment by Kaeha and Na Hoku Hanohano award winner Waipuna as well as a keiki hula performance are part of the event, staged for kamaaina and visitors.
For the first part of the evening on the rooftop, attendees are encouraged to bring low beach chairs, mats and blankets to sit on while enjoying the food and entertainment. Outside food, beverages and coolers are not allowed.
The film screens at 7 p.m., and the event will be pau at 9.
