Missing hiker spends night above Manoa Falls before rescue

A 21-year-old man from Florida had to spend Monday night in the Koolau Mountains above Manoa Falls.

Friends of the hiker called 911 at 11:30 p.m. Monday after not hearing from the hiker for nearly 12 hours, the fire department said.

The hiker had posted an Instagram photo of himself just after noon on Monday at the summit.

Fire rescue personnel were able to contact the hiker by cell phone. The department’s helicopter then extracted him above Manoa Falls and airlifted him to Manoa District Park at 8 a.m. today. The hiker did not suffer any injuries and refused medical treatment.

No injuries so why couldn’t he get out on his own?

It was a nice view of the city lights- I’ll never forget it.

Make him pay for the rescue for breaking law. First off, dummy goes hiking ALONE. Second, there are signs that says stay off the falls. When are we going to wake up????? People see posts like this guy and they want to do it….take some legal action and fine these people. Hitting those in the wallets will prevent others from doing it….make it severe….I thought we need money to pay for rail???
