Tinman rescheduled for next Sunday
The 36th Tinman Triathlon, which had been set for this morning, has been rescheduled for next Sunday, July 31.
Organizers had postponed the event in advance of approaching Tropical Storm Darby, citing high wind and rain that would affect all segments of the multi-sport event particularly the cycling portion.
“We are committed to safety of the participants, as well as the volunteers and the community,” an e-mail sent from the race committee to all entrants said. “We apologize for any inconvenience for competitors, especially those coming to Oahu from the neighbor island, the mainland and other countries.”
Race director Olga Caldwell said over 500 participants had been expected for today’s race.
The Tinman is comprised of a 750-meter swim off Queen’s Beach, a 40-kilometer bike ride from Kapiolani Park to Hawaii Kai and return, and a 10-kilometer run from Kapiolani Park around Diamond Head and return. It begins at 5:45 a.m.
