Small fire prompts evacuation of Waikiki hotel
Firefighters only needed a bucket of water to douse smoldering embers and cool off an electrical motor belt in the ventilation system of the Pacific Beach Hotel’s fifth-floor kitchen Friday morning.
Eight companies with 30 firefighters responded to the fire reported at 6:06 a.m. in the kitchen of the 38-story hotel on Kalakaua Avenue.
The 837-room hotel was evacuated while firefighters sought the source of the smoke. Guests were allowed to return at 6:30 a.m.
The cause of the electrical fire is under investigation.
