Three days after playing the University of Hawaii on Oahu, North Carolina will meet host Chaminade in the first round of the Maui Jim Maui Invitational at the Lahaina Civic Center on Nov. 21. Bracket pairings were revealed earlier this week.
The Division II Silverswords are 0-2 all-time against the Tar Heels, who went 33-7 last season as the national runner-up. They last met in 2012, a 42-point win by the Heels.
“I have great respect for Coach (Roy) Williams and the UNC program,” Chaminade head coach Eric Bovaird said. “They had a great run last year and they’re loaded up again. It’ll be a huge challenge for us but a fun one.”
UNC is making its seventh Maui appearance, the most by any program besides Chaminade.
The other Maui first-round matchups are: Tennessee vs. Wisconsin; Georgetown vs. Oregon; and Oklahoma State vs. Connecticut.
