Hawaiian Airlines continued its reign as the most punctual U.S. carrier, with 92.1 percent of its flights arriving on time in May, according to data released Thursday by the U.S. Department of Transportation.
Overall, the national average among the 12 reporting airlines was 83.4 percent. A flight is considered on time by the DOT if it arrives within 14 minutes of its scheduled time.
The state’s largest airline, which has led all U.S. carriers in on-time performance for each of the past 12 years, also ranked third in fewest flight cancellations in May with 0.3 percent, or 17 cancellations out of 6,432 flights.
In other categories, Hawaiian ranked eighth for fewest mishandled-baggage reports, with 2.72 reports per 1,000 passengers, and also ranked eighth for fewest consumer complaints, with 1.89 per 100,000 passengers.
