Kevin Hayashi won a three-way playoff at the U.S. Senior Open qualifier at Leilehua on Monday, earning Hawaii’s lone spot in the USGA National Championship at Scioto Country Club in Columbus, Ohio.
Hayashi of Hilo, Brandan Kop of Pearl City and Weng Young of Taiwan finished at even-par 72 after 18 holes, forcing a sudden-death playoff. Kop was eliminated after a bogey on the first hole. Young and Hayashi played six extra holes, with Hayashi making a birdie on the par-5 15th to secure the single qualifying spot.
