Jeff Wilson, an associate professor at Renison University College in Canada, will explore mindfulness and its many forms in American culture at the 42nd annual Buddhist Study Center summer session over a five-day period.
Wilson, who teaches religious and East Asian studies, will speak at an event 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Buddhist Study Center, 1436 University Ave. The cost is $50, though tuition assistance and scholarships are available. Call 973-6555 to preregister. For more details, call the center, 973-6555.
“Mindful America: The Mutual Transformation of Buddhist Meditation and American Culture,” Wilson’s book published in 2014, has been called “the definitive catalogue of the ways ‘mindfulness’ is being used by Americans” by the Journal of the American Academy of Religion, according to a news release.
Mindfulness techniques are now used in some professional sports, therapy practices as well as in the military and elsewhere.
