The snake, measuring 3- to 4-feet long, was reported to the Agriculture Department on Maui and a plant quarantine inspector picked it up. It was later identified as a non-venomous ball python.
A farm worker caught a live snake Friday afternoon on a Kaanapali, Maui, coffee farm, the Department of Agriculture announced today.
The snake, measuring 3- to 4-feet long, was reported to the Agriculture Department on Maui and a plant quarantine inspector picked it up. It was later identified as a non-venomous ball python.
The snake was euthanized, due to its condition, the Agriculture Department said. The agency said it was not known how the snake got to the farm.
The ball python is a constrictor, which subdues its prey by coiling around and suffocating it.
These snakes originate in western and West Central Africa. They are common in the pet trade, the Agriculture Department says.
They usually feed on small mammals and birds and can grow up to 6 feet long.

Snakes can pose a serious threat to Hawaii’s environment, preying on native birds and their eggs, and are also dangerous to humans and small pets.
The state urges anyone who knows of illegal animals to call its toll-free pest hotline at 643-PEST (7378).

It was alive.
It’s sad that creatures of nature are killed so freely. Now if it was sick I get it. It is not the snakes fault it was where it was, it was some human. This snake was not venomous.
People don’t cage their snakes properly or they get bored with them so they are irresponsible enough to set them free. They don’t think of the consequences. The Florida Everglades are being destroyed because of stupid people freeing snakes. Now they have taken over and are killing everything that belongs there. It is very sad.
The farm workers probably beat the sh_t out of it to subdue it and keep it from crawling away.
They should beat the idiot that brought the snake into the state as well.

First of all, people here should not need cages for snakes and should not get bored of them because it is illegal to have them. The state needs to impose much harsher penalties against these stupid ice holes with illegal pets.

Get plenty snakes on Oahu. You can find them in that concrete building on Beratania Street.
I spotted another snake at 530 South King Street, Room 300. Someone call the Department of Agriculture and get that snake out of there!
Catch the snake who brought that reptile to Hawaii.
Since the coffee farm is gated you would have to look at the workers and residents first.
