Convoy of Hope is slated to roll into Richardson Field, across from Aloha Stadium, on July 16, bringing in 30 tons of free groceries and a variety of goods and services.
The faith-based international nonprofit will first visit the Hilo County Fairgrounds on Hawaii island on July 9, with the aim of giving away 15 tons of food. Both events are set to start at 10 a.m. and will stay open as long as supplies last.
More than 5,000 pairs of children’s shoes and 2,000 backpacks filled with school supplies, along with clothing for all ages, will be distributed at the events, coordinator Jennifer Pagud said. Various free services include haircuts, family portraits, job and career assistance for veterans, health services, transitional housing and community information.
In addition, hot meals will be served, and there will be a keiki fun zone. Parking will be available at Aloha Stadium’s Swap Meet site, with shuttles provided to Richardson Field.
Convoy of Hope is partnering with local businesses, individuals, government, organizations and churches to provide support to the community. No ID or income verification is required at the events.
Convoy of Hope, which has assisted with disaster relief and other causes, has previously held six events on Oahu and one on Molokai, Pagud said. More than 7,600 volunteers have supported the events.
