Fire consumes a Toyota, part of a house
Hawaii County fire investigators are trying to determine the cause of a fire Tuesday that destroyed a car and part of a home in Keaau.
The fire was reported at 11:47 a.m. on 32nd Avenue in the Hawaiian Paradise Park subdivision. The blaze was brought under control at 12:10 p.m.
Upon arrival, firefighters found flames coming from the garage side of the structure as well as heavy smoke emanating from the living room and bedroom areas, fire officials said.
The man who lives there was mowing his lawn when the fire broke out in the garage, and he was not injured, officials said.
Damage was estimated at $210,000, and a Toyota sedan in the garage was considered a total loss.
