3 men detained in latest Chinese air rage incidents

BEIJING » Chinese police have detained a man over an attack on an airline check-in clerk that left her lying in a pool of blood and arrested two others who charged the cockpit as their flight was taxiing for takeoff, the latest in a growing tally of dangerous acts involving Chinese airline travelers.

A statement from the Civil Aviation Administration of China said two men aboard a Hainan Airlines flight Sunday from the northern city of Datong to Chongqing demanded to be upgraded to business class as their flight was taxiing.

When told to remain seated, they fought with a member of the cabin crew and a passenger who tried to help, then pounded on the cockpit door. They continued to kick and punch after police boarded the flight and had to be removed in handcuffs, the CAAC said. They now face criminal charges for obstruction, it said.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday a passenger at the airport in the southern city of Shenzhen smashed the head of a Juneyao Airlines clerk with a brass plaque. Photos on Chinese websites showed the woman lying on the floor behind the counter, blood from the head wound pooling beneath her.

The man had apparently been enraged after the clerk told him she couldn’t print out his friend’s travel itinerary without the man’s ID card — an example of the often trivial matters to provoke violence. Perceived slights, flight delays, seating arrangements and even bad food have also sparked arguments, while other bizarre incidents include the opening of emergency exits on planes sitting on the tarmac.

Despite the apparent severity of the injury, the man was only ordered detained for 10 days, fined 500 yuan ($76) and ordered to pay 4,900 yuan ($745) in compensation, described by CAAC as the standard punishment for “interfering with the normal order of civil aviation transport.”

In a statement, Juneyao said it “strongly condemned all acts that harm the personal rights and interests of our employees. Juneyao will take all lawful measures to safeguard the legal rights of our employees.”

Hoping to discourage such acts and mitigate Chinese travelers’ growing reputation for occasionally being difficult and sometimes violent, China’s tourism administration has set up an internet site that lists the names of those involved in disruptive incidents aboard planes and trains or at tourist sites.

Have we experienced such barbaric behavior from Chinese tourists visiting our country? It has been observed there is a distinct differences between Chinese and other foreign Asians’ conducts, favoring the latter more than the former! Unfortunately, Emily Post is a stranger to their cultural and/or upbringing!

Naw. Our Mainlanders just hack and spit in the lobby of the Royal, urinate off the Atlantis pier and have their little kids poop on newspapers laid out on the beach.

I haven’t seen anything that extreme but I have witness general rudeness and noncompliance to flight crew instructions. The worse probably was seeing several get up to retrieve bags from the overhead storage bins as the flight was just about to land. I assumed it was due to being inexperienced travelers.

I have traveled the world and the only groups of people who are almost always rude are the Chinese. They are always loud and always try to push their way through to the front of any line.

Send them to N. Korea and be done with it.

Unlike the US these Chinese perps probably will be dealt with more harshly. Chinese authorities not afraid to sentence people to death. I don’t think their prisons are overcrowded.

Indeed, very common knowledge that the Chinese just turn prisoners into mandatory organ donors, something the USA should do too. Sad to see so many patients in the USA waiting forever on organ waiting lists just die never getting a 2nd chance to life while psycho killers like Charles Manson enjoy a full club fed retirement sponsored by the tax payers. Complete waste system in the USA if you ask me.

Some individuals in the US would probably be willing to pay those amounts just so that they can vent their frustrations some of the airline personnel? Whether the fines over there is high???

Some idiot cut in front of my friend who is disabled. Her boyfriend, who is in his 70s but still very strong, grabbed the guy by his arm and yanked him back. The idiot in may or not have been from China.

Japan has become a very popular destination for Chinese tourists. We were in Asakusa a couple of years ago as part of a tour group and I was waiting in line with my mother to perform the water purification ritual at the temple’s fountain. Just as my mother was prepared to grab a ladle, a chinese woman who was NOT in line literally snatched it away from her. I was furious and my first instinct was to take the ladle back, but my mother – ever the peacemaker – grabbed my arm and said “Just wait till she’s done.”

Several years ago,as I was going thru security. A Chinese man was behind me. As I was retrieving my jacket he tried to tear it away from me as I was putting it back on,almost knocking me down.As we were both tugging with my jacket, his companions behind him howlered out to him holding up his jacket. He then grabbed his jacket and stormed off without even an apology. I told that he was an effen azzhole.

HTA doesn’t care. Anything for the almighty Chinese yuan. Our two tours to China has many horror stories of Chinese behavior in crowds and lines. I guess that’s how life is in an overcrowded society. Individually, people are nice. Japanese and Korean crowds are almost as bad.

Have you noticed the same tendencies becoming common in Honolulu?
