He announced at the same time that he was excited to “share the spectacular visuals behind the movie” with the first teaser trailer debuting on Sunday.
Johnson lived in Hawaii off and on as a boy and attended McKinley High School as a freshman.
Auli’i Cravalho, of Mililani, is the voice of Moana, the spirited teenager who wants to be a navigator and journey across the ocean by reading the stars.
According to Disney, the story takes place 3,000 years ago in Oceania, where Moana sets sail for a fabled island. During her journey, Moana teams up with the demigod Maui, and together they encounter “enormous sea creatures, breathtaking underworlds and ancient folklore.”
