More rain expected over Memorial Day

The flood advisories for Oahu and Lanai expired at 8:15 p.m., the National Weather Service reported.

The National Weather Service has issued flood advisories for Oahu and Lanai due to slow-moving heavy showers.
The advisory for Oahu is effective until 8:15 p.m.
Lanai remains under advisory until 8:30 p.m.

A rain gauge in Pacific Palisades measured rain falling at a rate of one inch per hour. Heavy showers are also affecting the area between Kalihi and Makiki. Locations in the advisory include, but are not limited to, Honolulu, Aiea, Pearl City, Salt Lake and Halawa.
On Lanai, rainfall was measured at two inches per hour. The advisory covers areas including Lanai City, Lanai Airport and the Lodge at Koele.
The weather service cautions people in the affected areas to stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low-lying areas prone to flooding. Rainfall and runoff may also cause hazardous driving conditions due to ponding, reduced visibility and poor braking action.
Both advisories may be extended if heavy rain persists.

Sunny skies this morning are likely to become cloudy and rainy again this afternoon and an approaching weather system could bring a wet Memorial Day to Oahu.
Forecasters expect another warm and humid morning with light, variable winds helping rain clouds to form in the afternoon over interior sections of the islands.
On Saturday, a funnel cloud to formed over Makakilo, according to a weather service report received by the city’s Department of Emergency Management. The funnel cloud did not touch ground.
Heavy showers Saturday afternoon dropped nearly 1.5 inches of rain in Waiwa. About 1.2 inches fell in the northern Koolau Mountains and nearly an inch was recorded in Palisades.
Forecasters are watching a line of clouds associated with a cold front that is expected to move over Kauai late this afternoon and over Oahu overnight and Monday morning. It should begin to weaken as it continues east through Wednesday.
The cold front will bring an increased chance of showers on Memorial Day on Oahu.
Breezy tradewinds and morning windward and mauka showers should return to Oahu Tuesday after the front passes.
The forecast for Honolulu and south shores of Oahu calls for a 50 percent chance of rain today and a 70 percent chance of rain on Monday. Highs will be between 78 and 85 degrees and lows are expected between 64 and 73 degrees.

Ohhh no, reading this will only make a bunch of hikers decide this will be a great time to go hiking in Maunawili or some other place where the chances of flash flooding is highly possible.
