Protestors march seeking repeal of a Mississippi law allowing religious groups and some private businesses to deny services to same-sex couples, transgender people and others. More than 300 people attended a March and rally today in Jackson, Miss.
JACKSON, Miss. » Mississippi supporters of lesbian, gay bisexual and transgender rights protested today, saying they’re not giving up their fight against a state law they call discriminatory.
The law, which takes effect July 1, is to allow religious groups and some private businesses to deny services to same-sex couples and transgender people.
More than 300 people marched from the state Capitol to the governor’s mansion in Jackson, trying to keep up pressure on Gov. Phil Bryant and other Mississippi leaders who support the law.
Chad Griffin, president of the Human Rights Campaign, says the gay-rights group expects businesses, movies and entertainers will increasingly refuse to do business in the state.
Bryant and other supporters say the law reinforces the First Amendment guarantee of freedom of religion. They say opponents are overreacting.

No one with a penis has a right to go into a women’s rest room. Only sick liberals believe it is a right.
Make all bathrooms without urinals unisex. What’s the problem?
“Rest room”? Who is resting there? Are women laying there on the floor “resting”?
Good idea. Penalize your fans, customers and people who buy your products rather than the politicians who passed those laws.
I’m fairly confident that a rich 80 year old white guy doesn’t really care that U2 isn’t going to be playing Biloxi. But it’s really going to bum out the 22 year old fan of theirs who saved up for months to buy a ticket.
I just threw U2 in there as an example. I was going to use Beyoncé, but I found out that she’s actually playing Raleigh, NC tomorrow night as part of her world tour… which brings up an inconvenient point….there aren’t too many artists of color boycotting this particular meme of the month. It seems that one protected class isn’t too enthralled with another protected class.
if a business didn’t want to serve cholo because he is ugly why would cholo insist they take cholo’s money? screw them cholo will spend his money where he is wanted. so simple.
Men should be allowed in all women’s bathroom when there are no urinals. I do not see a problem if a man or a woman is in a door covered stall next to one another and when they come out wash their hands in adjacent wash basins.
All of the states should do the same as Mississippi.
