Robert Kirkman, writer and executive producer of “The Walking Dead” TV series and creator of the comic book upon which the hit TV series is based, will headline the Amazing Hawaii Comic Con, May 20 to 22 at the Hawai‘i Convention Center.
His appearance comes fresh off this month’s Season 6 finale of the wildly popular AMC show. In addition to a meet-and-greet with fans, event co-producer Jimmy Jay also confirmed this week that Kirkman will screen the debut episode of his new Cinemax series, “Outcast,” for the first time while on Oahu.
This is the second year for the Amazing Hawaii Comic Con, which will feature more than 150 exhibitors and 200 artists. Kirkman will be joined by DC Entertainment co-
publisher Jim Lee, the artist responsible for such titles as “Justice League: Origins,” “Batman: Hush” and “Superman Unchained,” and Chris Claremont, whose work developing “X-Men” characters like Phoenix, Rogue, Gambit and Mystique over a 17-year period was the basis for 20th Century Fox’s upcoming summer blockbuster, “X-Men Apocalypse.” Other special guests include another “X-Men” contributor, Scott Lobdell, voice actors from anime film “Dragonball X” and “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” creator Kevin Eastman.
“How do you get bigger than (last year’s headliner) Stan Lee? That’s really tough to accomplish, but we’re proud of what we’re doing this year,” Jay said by phone from California. “These are the people who actually started these big pop culture movements, who created all these great characters, and they’ll all be on hand. You’re going to meet the people who originated all these classic storylines.”
Tickets are $60 for a three-day pass; one-day tickets and VIP packages are also available. Kids 10 years and under get in free with a paying adult. Visit amazinghawaiicomiccon.com for more info or follow @amazingcomiccon on Twitter for updates.
