Souza named Pac-12 Player of the Week
Washington senior Kimberlee Souza was named the Pac-12 Player of the Week for softball Monday.
The 2011 ‘Iolani graduate homered in all three games of a sweep of Arizona State and hit .556 (5-for-9) with two walks, three homers, five runs and seven RBIs.
Souza launched a three-run homer in the first inning of the first game and collected three hits. Her third homer of the series broke a 9-9 tie in the final game’s seventh inning and gave Washington a sweep to improve to 26-8 overall and 7-5 in conference.
Washington is ranked No. 11 in the latest ESPN.com/USA Softball Top 25 and is in third place in the Pac-12 behind Oregon and UCLA.
Ma’a grabs fourth weekly honor
UCLA freshman Micah Ma’a, who helped the Bruins defeat Stanford and Pepperdine last week to clinch the No. 2 seed in the MPSF tournament, was named the Off the Block/Springbak, Inc. Co-National Freshman of the Week on Monday.
Ma’a won the honor for the fourth time this season after finishing with 20 assists, six kills, six digs and two solo blocks in a sweep of the Cardinal on Thursday.
Ma’a added a team-high 26 assists, four digs, three kills, three block assists, two aces and a solo block in a four-set win over Pepperdine on Saturday.
The Bruins finished the regular season 23-5 overall and 17-5 in conference play and will host No. 7 seed Hawaii in the quarterfinals of the MPSF tournament on Saturday.
UCLA moved up a spot to No. 3 in the latest AVCA Division I-II Coaches Top 25 Poll.
Armanini wins first college tournament
Chico State senior Bianca Armanini won her first collegiate tournament at the Sonoma State Spring Invitational last week and was named the Wildcat of the Week on Tuesday.
Armanini, who placed second at the 2015 InterWest Wildcat Invitational and fourth last October at the Sonoma State Fall Invitational, carded a two-round score of 6-over 150 to win the tournament by three shots.
Armanini, a 2012 Baldwin alumna, took a share of the lead with a 1-over 73 in the first round and closed with a 77 to finish on top of the 56-player field.
She posted her fifth career top-10 finish and became the fifth player in program history to win a tournament and first since March 27, 2007.
Armanini is averaging a career-best 78.1 strokes per round and has three top-10 finishes this season alone.

>> Gabe Gunter, King Kekaulike ’13:The Cal Lutheran cleanup hitter was 2-for-9 with two walks, a homer and five RBIs to help the the Kingsmen win two of three against Pomona-Pitzer over the weekend.
>> Trey Saito, Mid-Pacific ’13:The Cal Lutheran junior right-hander gave up an unearned run on five hits with one walk and six strikeouts to earn the win in a 9-1 victory over Pomona-Pitzer on Friday.
>> Tanner Nishioka, ‘Iolani ’13: The Pomona-Pitzer outfielder finished 3-for-10 with a walk and a run scored in a three-game series against Cal Lutheran over the weekend.
>> Kaelen Hirashiki, Maryknoll ’12:The St. Martin’s (Wash.) senior homered and scored the winning run in a 4-3 win over Northwest Nazarene on Saturday and finished 5-for-12 with two doubles, two walks, a stolen base and three runs scored to help the Saints split the four-game series.
>> Shayne Kurihara, Saint Louis ’12:The St. Martin’s (Wash.) senior outfielder started the first three games of the series against Northwest Nazarene and finished 4-for-12 with a run and two RBIs.
>> Austin Darmawan, ‘Iolani ’13: The Washington (Mo.) shortstop finished 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBIs and a stolen base out of the leadoff spot in a 15-5 win over Iowa Wesleyan on Sunday.
>> Ashton Kuhaulua, Kamehameha ’07:The Menlo (Calif.) College right-hander allowed three runs — two earned — on seven hits in eight innings with two walks and six strikeouts to earn the victory in a 6-3 win over The Master’s College on Friday.
>> Dane Fujinaka, Mid-Pacific ’11: The Menlo (Calif.) College went 3-for-12 with a homer and two RBIs in a three-game sweep of The Master’s College over the weekend.

>> John Oda, Moanalua ’14:The UNLV sophomore shot a final-round 5-over 76 and finished in a tie for 18th place at 7 over at the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate on Sunday.

>> Rose Huang, ‘Iolani ’15: The Brigham Young freshman closed with a 3-over 75 in windy conditions to finish in a tie for seventh place at 2-over 218 at the Red Raider Invitational on Saturday. Huang opened with a 71 and 72 and birdied the second-to-last hole of her tournament.
>> Kacie Komoto, Punahou ’13:The Northwestern junior, currently ranked No. 30 in college by Golfweek.com, closed with back-to-back rounds of 3-over 75 to finish in a tie for 53rd place at 12 over at the PING/ASU Invitational that ended Sunday.
>> Nani Yanagi, Waiakea ’12: The Washington State senior finished in 57th place at 13 over at the PING/ASU Invitational.
>> Brittany Fan, Kamehameha ’14:The Colorado sophomore closed with consecutive rounds of 4-over 76 to finish in 63rd place at 16 over at the PING/ASU Invitational.
>> Monique Ishikawa, Kalaheo ’12: The Columbia (N.Y.) University senior finished in a tie for 33rd place at 19-over 235 after posting a 78 in her final round of the River Landing Classic on Sunday.

>> Kristi Hayashida, Home schooled ’13: The Seattle Pacific junior earned a silver medal in the event finals on the balance beam with a 9.850 at the USA Gymnastics Women’s Collegiate National Championships last week. Hayashida helped the Falcons finish in third place in the team finals.
>> Tracie Villanueva, Moanalua ’13: The Seattle Pacific junior scored 9.675 on bars and 9.825 on the beam in the team finals at the USA Gymnastics Women’s Collegiate National Championships.
>> Joey Ching, Punahou ’12:The Air Force senior scored 9.3 on the floor exercise in the preliminary rounds of the USA Gymnastics Women’s Collegiate National Championships.
>> Jenna Frowein, Punahou ’12:The Stanford senior was named to the Pac-12 All-Academic first team this week, earning the honor for the third straight year. She is the third Stanford gymnast to win the honor three times.

>> Brittany Hawn, Castle ’12:The Stetson (Fla.) third baseman finished 3-for-8 with a double, four runs, two RBIs and three stolen bases as the Hatters lost two of three to Florida Gulf Coast over the weekend.

>> Kylie Kam, Punahou ’14:The Babson College (Mass.) sophomore won in straight sets at No. 4 singles, including a 6-0 shutout in the second set, to help the Beavers beat Connecticut College 5-4 on Friday.
>> Bobbi Oshiro, ‘Iolani ’12: The Boise State senior clinched the double point with a win in the No. 2 flight and lost a tough three-set battle at No. 1 singles in a 5-2 win over Air Force on Sunday.

MEN’S TRACK AND FIELD
>> Devin Jenkins, Kapolei ’12: The Texas A&M senior was part of the foursome that ran a collegiate-leading time of 39.02 seconds in the 4×100 relay on Sunday at the Sun Angel Classic. The Aggies finished third behind two professional lineups from Altis. Jenkins clocked a 10.22 in the 100 meters and a 20.39 in the 200 meters to post the top collegiate times in those events. The performances moved Jenkins to equal 12th in the 100 and 10th in the 200 on Texas A&M’s all-time list.
>> Kainoa Tom, Baldwin ’15: The Washington State freshman finished in a tie for 14th place in the men’s pole vault with a mark of 4.6 meters at the Sun Angel Classic.
>> Michael Chin, Christian Academy ’13: The Northern Arizona junior finished in fourth place in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:53.78 at the Jim Click Shootout that ended Saturday.
WOMEN’S WATER POLO
>> Sarina Shibata, Punahou ’12: The Villanova senior scored two goals in a 7-5 upset of No. 23 Marist on Sunday.
