Cruz’s comments after attack criticized by Muslims, others
DEARBORN, Mich. >> Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz’s call for increased surveillance in Muslim neighborhoods following the deadly bombings in Brussels is drawing sharp rebukes from Muslim Americans and civil rights groups.
Cruz said Tuesday that law enforcement should be empowered to “patrol and secure Muslim neighborhoods before they become radicalized.” Echoing earlier statements from rival Donald Trump, Cruz also said the U.S. should stop the flow of refugees from countries where the Islamic State militant group has a significant presence.
The Council on American-Islamic Relations, the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, condemned the calls for surveillance, saying it sends “an alarming message to American-Muslims who increasingly fear for their future in this nation.”
Individuals across the country also said such a change would send the wrong message to extremists.

As a descendent of a family affected by the internment of Japanese-American citizens during the start of World War II, I actually don’t think increased surveillance is such a bad thing. It’s far better than being completely stripped of your rights, property, and freedom and sent to “ill-kept Detention Centers”. I think my parents would have actually welcomed “increased surveillance” so they could prove their loyalty, versus being stripped completely of their rights & property without due process.
The Muslim community can help by reporting any terroristic activity.
It’s pissing off the Muslim community? Good. They signal their approval of terrorism by their very silence and refusal to condemn such barbaric attacks on innocent human beings. Cruz must be doing something right, then.
Europe is so apathetic they have areas where Sharia law prevails and their laws do not apply. They do not patrol Muslim dominated districts, so that planning for Belgium and Paris attacks goes on unfettered. Cruz is right on this one, we cannot give up on keeping America safe in order to be politically correct.
“Individuals across the country also said such a change would send the wrong message to extremists.” Really? I would like to know what would be wrong with the message?
