Chang to seek Slom’s seat

Former Honolulu City Councilman Stanley Chang said Thursday he plans to run for the state Senate seat occupied by Sam Slom, the only Republican in the 25-member chamber.

Chang, 33, is a lawyer, a Waialae-Kahala resident and a Democrat who served one term on the Council. He also made an unsuccessful bid for the District 1 U.S. House seat in 2014.

“We need to take action on some of the persistent issues facing our state — improving our schools, building more affordable housing, creating good jobs for young people — and I want to fight for the priorities of the people of East Honolulu,” Chang said.

Slom, 73, was unavailable for comment. He has represented East Honolulu in the Senate since 1996.

Seriously? Add YET another do nothing Dem to the legislature? Well I guess it would finally do away with the façade of a two party state.

I laughed my A S S off reading the above statement. How’s he gonna add to the quality of the state? His law practice must not be doing so great…probably wills, trusts and notarizing things…

And how well has Sam Slom fared in disagreeing with everything? Well, made a nice career for himself, I suppose.

My point being that even if Stanley got in, what would he do…really…that would change what’s already NOT being done (by a majority Dem legislature) to “improving our schools, building more affordable housing, creating good jobs for young people”??
        Just empty platitudes.
So I guess Stanley just wants Sam’s career so he can retire comfortably at the public trough after a few years.

True..Slom is hung up on himself. He has delivered nothing to East Oahu I am told. He hangs around for the salary and is famous for saying obvious things like everything is waste and corruption. He never has a positive plan to improve life for families. He also has a lot of scandal around his name according to SA.

Chang would make a great addition to the Senate. It doesn’t matter whether he’s taking out the last remaining Republican or creating a Democratic monolith in the Senate. It’s really a question of who can represent the district better and get things done. All Slom does is say “no, no, no” — what does that get his constituents?

If the Republican Party were really concerned about holding onto a presence in the legislature, they’d put up better candidates and not put all their eggs in the Sam Slom basket.

……….just what we(Hawaii) need MORE Democrats. Are there other Republicans in that district running for that seat?

LOL!!! I guess doing trusts and notarizing papers didn’t pay that well for Chang after all. No wonder he wants an iron rice bowl job in the legislature.

    Good luck comrade.
