HOUSTON » The 14-year-old Houston-area girl whose body was found in a grassy field in west Houston died from gunshot wounds, medical examiners said in a report today.

Adriana Coronado, whose body was found Wednesday, was shot multiple times and her death has been ruled a homicide, the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences said. She was last seen a week ago in the Houston suburb of Katy, where she lived.

Investigators believe Adriana might have been with her father, Caesar Vladimir Coronado, when he was killed. He was found fatally shot Sunday about 80 miles north of Houston. His burned pickup truck was found near Conroe, 45 miles south of where his body was discovered.

The Walker County’s Sheriff’s Office released surveillance video Thursday of a person of interest leaving the father’s truck in Conroe on Sunday night. The truck is driven off screen and a few seconds later, a burst of light can be seen coming from the direction of the truck. Authorities believe the burst of light was when the truck was set on fire. The man can be seen running away from the direction of the truck and later seen running down an alley.

Investigators have said they don’t have a motive and don’t know what Coronado was doing in Walker County.

Houston police department spokesman Victor Senties declined to comment on the medical examiners’ report Saturday, saying Adriana’s death was “part of an ongoing investigation.”

A little more sensitivity, please. Do you really have to mention “decomposing” in the headline?

    • DeltaDag says:

It could have been much more graphic had “rotting” or “putrifying” and “decaying” been chosen. The intent of the writer was to convey that she had been deceased (dead) for some time.

      • MillionMonkeys says:

The great majority of discovered body cases involve bodies that have been dead at least several days, if not weeks or months. But most of the headlines just mention “body discovered.” You CAN mention the “decomposing” in the article, for readers who want to know more details. Respectable newspapers use words like “decomposing” only if it’s of special significance to the article, perhaps a story that’s been in the news for a while and the state of the corpse is an important part of identifying the person or solving the case.

        • DeltaDag says:

The degree of mortification would help determine whether she had been killed with her father whose corpse had been found four days earlier.

        • MillionMonkeys says:

Details in the article. Basic info (or sensationalism, depending on the type of publication) in the headline.

Likely a drug deal gone bad. She was an innocent victim. May God be with her soul.

The Hawaii Kai teen missing for a long time: I hope this same fate has not fallen onto him. Would be terrible, however a missing person for a very long time, not wanting to be found, can happen. However what successful boy would want to simply disappear?
