After watching six seniors honored last Saturday, Briana Harris could have the ceremony to herself next year.
>> Class: Junior
>> Major: Family Resources
>> Hometown: Inglewood, Calif.
>> High School: St. Monica
>> Quick Fact: Set career highs with 24 points and five 3-pointers in UH’s loss at Saint Mary’s last season in the WNIT.
The lone returning junior on the Rainbow Wahine basketball team’s roster, Harris helped send this year’s class out with a win over Cal Poly last Saturday as part of her recent surge to close the regular season.
Harris ignited the Wahine offense off the bench while scoring in double figures in each of the past four games heading into the Big West tournament. She led the Wahine with 15 points against UC Santa Barbara last Thursday and matched Megan Huff for team-high honors with 11 in UH’s senior night win.
Harris started eight games in the nonconference portion of the schedule but has provided production off the bench in the Big West season. She averaged 9.1 points in 21 minutes in Big West games and is second on the team in 3-pointers overall with 33, one behind Ashleigh Karaitiana. Along with providing a perimeter threat, she’s attacked the basket with abandon to score or draw fouls.
Technically, Harris is one of two juniors on the team, but center Brianna Kennedy will graduate this semester and forego her final year of eligibility.
Second-seeded UH opens the Big West tournament on Friday in the semifinals at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif.
